New Policy on Car Returns

Europcar International has set a new policy on car returns by changing the grace period for late vehicles in the Europcar network.

This will affect all late returns after the agreed rental period, generally 24 hours. Customers who show up more than 30 minutes late will be charged for an additional rental day. This policy comes into effect on May 2nd, 2005.

"Shortening the period of grace for returning late vehicles is part of our overall fleet management policy to secure availability and obtain greater flexibility. By doing so, we will be able to provide our customers as a whole with a more accurate and efficient service. It is our constant endeavour to provide every customer with the product he or she has asked for", said Rafael Girona, Chief Operating Officer of Europcar International. "Customers sometimes feel they are being punished by these kinds of charges, but we know that the majority of our customers understand and respect their individual responsibility within the rental process. Returning the car at the agreed time is part of the rental deal", he added.

The new policy allows 30 minutes' grace after the vehicle was actually due back. By tightening the grace period, Europcar expects a significant enhancement in its quality of service to achieve greater customer satisfaction. This is because the cars delivered will be able to match customer demands more effectively. Europcar is following the overall market line with its new car return policy.
